Jimmy Liu was born in Taiwan. He obtained his Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, and has trained with well-known guitarists including maestro Oscar Ghiglia, Shin-ichi Fukuda, Pro.Nicolas Goluses, Pro.Ming-chien Fang.

In 1993, Jimmy entered the National Taiwan University of Arts with the best entry exam results, majoring in classical guitar. Jimmy was chosen to perform a guitar concerto with the university’s orchestra, and graduated first in his class in 1997. In 1999 received a scholarship to enter the Eastman School of Music.

In addition to recitals and ensembles, Jimmy is often invited to perform together with a variety of orchestras and presents the radio program “Sound of The Guitar”, which was nominated in “49th Taiwan National Radio Award (Gold Bell Award)” in 2014.

Jimmy was invited to play concert in many countries over the world, and currently teaches at the National Taiwan University of Arts, and is also the artistic director of “Taiwan International Guitar Festival/Competition” since 2012.

  • 1st place in “2002 Taiwan Guitar Duo Contest,” and 2nd place in “2002 Taiwan Guitar Solo Contest.”
  • 2nd place in “2003 Concorso Chitarristico Internazionale, Italy.”
  • 2nd place in “2003 Hermoupolis International Guitar Competition, Greece.”
  • Honored with “2003 Outstanding Alumnus Award” in the National Taiwan University of Arts.
  • 2nd place in “2004 Volos International Guitar Composition Competition (Guitar Chamber Music Category), Greece.”
